The beautiful Sahara…and beautiful camels
I reposted a post on Instagram today about the Sahara and it brought back wonderful memories of when I visited the Great Sea of the Desert in 1999 and lived out a boyhood dream (born of loving Lawrence of Arabia at the age of eight) to ride a camel on the dunes.

These photos are grainy and old but that's me riding together in the first and alone in the distant shot, with my white T-shirt. I rode my beautiful camel (I have always loved 🐪🐪) up a dune and was surprised by how high up you are on a camel, and how precarious it all seems when you're climbing a steep dune.
It was one of the most beautiful and memorable and meaningful experiences of my life.

And this is me with our dearly beloved first child, Joe Buffalo, who tragically died of Wilms tumor in 1989, riding a bactrian 🐫 at London Zoo, probably in 1986 or early 1987, before he was diagnosed.
I love this picture of us. Of all our photos, it brings me closest to him 🐪🐫🧡🌟💫
